We’ve all heard the fashion forecast; contouring is out and strobing is in for SS16, but what does that mean for our make-up bag?
Healthy, glowing skin is nothing new when it comes to the runway, but this year it’s about keeping it as natural as possible – which means upping your skincare game too.
We asked Maven46’s Sarah Jane Lanagan for her top tips on how to ace the look:
1. Include glycolic acid in your skincare regime
Congestion, dullness and dehydration are all conditions our skin will suffer with from time to time, especially during the winter months. Clean eating, plenty of water and lots of sleep are the cornerstone of a clear complexion but if you’re in need of a little added help, fear not because there are a few ways to fast track your skin care regime, starting with a good glycolic treatment like Dr Schultz’s 10% Exfoliating Pads. Glycolic acid will work to remove the upper most layer of dead, dull skin that insists on hanging around in the winter months to reveal the more youthful, fresher skin underneath.
2. Wear an SPF daily
As you’re speeding up the skin renewal process an SPF is essential to protect the delicate skin. Opt for an SPF that is also a moisturiser like Clarins’ UV Plus Day Screen and your skin will be kept looking plump and hydrated throughout the day.
3. Swap to cushion foundations
When it comes to make-up, sheer coverage foundations and skin enhancing formulas are going to be big this year. Designed to blur and refine, they smooth skin without looking like it’s been helped along in the process to give a more natural finish. Cushion foundations are the newest beauty innovation to reach our shores having gained cult status in Korea; these are cleverly designed to house a light as air, buildable coverage liquid foundation that doesn’t spill or leak and leaves skin looking more radiant and glowing. It seems like Kendall Jenner is a fan, and if it will give us supermodel skin then we are too!
4. Highlight it
As I mentioned initially, strobing is the watchword for skin this season. This is the technique of creating highlights on the face to give a brighter, more lifted, youthful appearance overall to the complexion. However, the trick to keeping it looking more natural is to use a product that is more of a warmer tone such as champagne like NARS’ ‘Jubilation’ blush rather than a cool white so that it will blend into skin rather than sit on top of it.
