Ever wondered if everyone else is also feeling a little less than loved up with their other halves after spending more time than usual together during the holidays?
Hours spent cooped up in the car, long visits to in-laws, the kids climbing the walls because all their friends are away and they have no-one to play with; these summer weeks can take their toll on romance, there is no doubt about that.
In fact, according to a recent study at the University of Washington, married couples are more likely to file for divorce at the end of a stretch of vacation, with the last week of August being peak season for throwing in the towel, apparently.
Why, you ask?
Well, according to the researchers, people tend to go into holiday periods with expectations that quality time is the answer to whatever relationship problems they may be having. But when they can’t find a fix—and vacation doesn’t meet those expectations—they return disappointed and ready for divorce.
So there you go – scientific proof that everything has a season, even divorce!
