Smoking Marijuana ‘Can Disrupt Fertility in Males’

Scientists have uncovered more evidence that marijuana use can disrupt fertility in males.

While previous research suggests that cannabis exposure may affect DNA-bound proteins and have an impact on fertility, embryo development and offspring health, a new report in the April 2016 issue of The FASEB Journal confirms it also has an affect on a cannabinoid receptor, called “CB2,”, which helps regulate the creation of sperm.

Previous studies show that smoking marijuana more than once a week may lower a man’s sperm count by up to one third.

Now scientists hope to use marijuana’s ability to disrupt sperm to develop new therapeutic treatments for male infertility.
