We’re very familiar with the “condition” known as “man flu” – just check out the article entitled ’10 thoughts I have whenever the man starts hinting at man flu.’
And we can’t quite believe that we are writing this but research has found that it could actually be a real thing.
According to the Daily Mail, a new study has found that women tend to deal better with the flu because of oestrogen.
It was discovered that the female sex hormone not only has anti-viral effects but it also reduced the replication of the flu virus in nasal cells.
Sabra Klein of Johns Hopkins University, who led the study, explains that the severity of a virus is determined by the amount it has replicated in cells.
The less replication, the less affected a person is by the illness and the less likely they are to pass it on to someone else.
The findings were published in the American Journal of Physiology – Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology.
