The Kiddie Christmas Countdown: One More Sleep!

If there is a calm house with kids in it in Ireland today, let me see it. One. More. Sleep! You will literally have to scoop me from the ceiling before the day is down because I’m so excited. Imagine what the kids are like!

There is no end to the things you can do with the kids on Christmas eve and we have a lovely list of Ten Christmas Eve Tips For a Magical Night Before on the website here.

When I was growing up, Christmas eve was always a day to visit our grannies and our way back to North County Dublin, dad drove through the airport so that we could see all the decorations.

My three brothers and I were already in a ‘Count the Christmas trees’ competition from the time we left our gran’s house, so the airport gave us a few extra to add to our numbers!

So with One More Sleep to go, what family traditions will you begin with your little ones? Will you go see Santa or visit the local farmer’s market to pick up some carrots for Rudolf?

Will you have a Christmas get-together with some family or friends for a couple of hours and tell the kids it’s a ‘Christmas party?’ Christmas Day dinners can get a little adult and stuffy for kids, so one that is just for them, complete with crackers, Christmas cups and plates and a game or two could be fun!

It really is up to each individual family how they like to build up the excitement on Christmas eve but one really good tip that I can give you is to get Santa on the phone!

Can you imagine your child’s face when they answer a call and Santa not only addresses them by name but tells them they are on the good list too?! Make. It. Happen. Parents!

The website Portable North Pole will let you do just that – you enter some personal information about your child and pick which message you would like Santa to relay.

It can be a reminder to leave some cookies out or to let them know that he has a big surprise coming for them, how much fun is that?!

We hope you and the kids have a really fun Christmas Eve and we’ll see you on the other side – Merry Christmas!
