A four-year-old boy has died following an accident on a Co. Mayo farm.
The scene, at Ballinaboy near Belmullet, has been sealed off by investigators after the tragedy, which happened at around 8.30pm last night.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the child may have been hit by a farm vehicle. He was rushed to Belmullet hospital but pronounced dead. A post mortem will be carried out today at Castlebar Hospital.
The Health and Safety Authority has been notified, with inspector expected to visit the scene this morning.
Ireland has over twice the incidence of farm accidents as other European countries. More than 30 people were killed on farms in Ireland in 2014.
