South Dublin Sex Attacker Identified

The net is closing on a sex attacker who has assaulted at least four women in south Dublin.

The Shankill and Killiney communities have been on high alert following the attacks, three of which happened near Dart stations since December.

The serial predator targets lone females of varying ages.

The assaults prompted a protest of more than 100 people outside Shankill Garda Station, with local residents highlighting a perceived lack of Gardaí on patrol in the area following the assaults.

A local shop even volunteered to supply women in the area with free rape alarms in an effort to help them stay safe.

Now, according to a report by Jim Cusack in the Irish Independent, Gardaí are close to an arrest after employing undercover officers and the Garda helicopter as part of a surveillance operation.

While the suspect has been identified, he has not yet been arrested.

Gardaí are asking anyone with information to contact Shankill station on (01)6665900 or call the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
