Woman accused of attempted murder of two-year-old son says she was “casting out his demons”

Warning, this article contains content that some may find distressing.

A mother in Russia has been accused of attempted murder of her two year old son after she cut him open with a knife.

25 year old Kristina Litvina insists that she wasn’t trying to kill him but to remove demons from his body.

Litvina’s two year old son Lev, survived the attacked from his mother due to neighbours calling an ambulance as soon as they realized what Litvina had done.

One of the neighbours told newspapers that ‘I’ve seen a lot in my life, but never like this.’

Warning, graphic details ahead.

Police describe finding the toddler in horrific condition.

Two year old Lev sustained cuts to his abdomen and arms and was covered in blood when neighbours found him.

First responders said that Litvina not only did not aide in trying to help her son but did not appear upset or distressed in the slightest.

They were quoted as saying that she did nothing but sit quietly in a chair asking them ‘Why don’t you understand? It was necessary to cast out his demons.’

Upon arrest Litvina confessed to the crime immediately, reiterating her statement that she was trying to remove demons from her son’s body.

Police and residents in the Yekaterinburg community are still shocked and at a loss as to why a young mother would attacked her child in such a gruesome manner.

As it stands Litvina is charged with attempted murder of a minor.

If found guilty the 25 year old could face up to 15 years in prison.

Litvina, who was known to enjoy mysticism, had never seemed violent or aggressive in the past.

While some feel her practices may have caused the attack, others think her recent split with her husband may have triggered this reaction.

It is unclear if Litvina has been sent for psychological assessment.
