7 things your own mum said that you swore you’d NEVER say to your own kids

When you were younger, you may have realised that your mum relied on the same phrases to keep you in line.

Now that you’re a parent, you may also have realised that you are now using those very same sayings.

If you haven’t, then this list will show you!

“Let me know when you get there”

Safety is a big thing for parents and you’ll know you are one when you start saying this to your kids, friends, parents – basically anyone that ever leaves to go on a journey.

Money doesn’t grow on trees, you know?”

Other alternatives to this classic include “do you think I’m made of money?” and “when you make your own money, you can spend it!”

“Just wait until your dad comes home”

We don’t know what it is that makes this phrase sound so threatening (after all, our dads were big softies) but when this is uttered, things are serious.

“Don’t make me come up there!”

It is only now that we realise the power of this statement and it is only now, as parents, that we love to hear it in the house.

“A little birdy told me…”

Aah, those little birdies, they are responsible for spilling all of the secrets. We salute whoever first came up with this phrase.

“How do you know you don’t like it if you haven’t tasted it?”

The question that we could never answer as children. Unfortunately for us, our little ones have gotten a little braver with their responses which have included “because it looks horrible!”

“Because I said so”

There is no comeback to this. End of story.
