Revealed… Ireland’s Favourite Picnic Destinations

With the bank holiday weekend approaching and a lovely weather forecast expected, we are seriously considering packing up a basket and heading for a picnic. But there is always that question of where to go?

Thankfully, we can now cut down our options as a survey has revealed Ireland’s most popular picnic destinations.

Research, conducted by Keogh’s Farm, found that Phoenix Park in Dublin is the best place to grab a few sandwiches and crisps in the sunshine.

Glendalough in Co. Wicklow was a very close second choice, followed by Fota Island in Co. Cork.

The study also found out the best international picnic spots. Central Park in New York was (unsurprisingly) the number one choice.

Machu Piccu in Peru, The Gardens of Versaille in France, Bondi Beach in Australia and The Tulip Fields in Holland finished off the top five.

As for people’s favourite picnic treats, 97 per cent said that crisps are a vital part of the experience with over half saying that the ultimate sandwich combo is Cheese and Onion crisps, butter, ham and cheese on wholegrain bread.

Other important elements that were cited included delicious food, great company and a scenic setting.
