How much on average do you spend on a child’s birthday party?
A couple of hundred euro? 15 quid a head? Even less? Or so, so much more?
Honestly, it probably depends on what kind of party you’re throwing, where it is, and how many other children you’re inviting.
Prices can vary wildly, but chances are you probably won’t end up spending €18,000 on a child’s first birthday party.
Surely not, like. That would be madness.
Turns out though, some people are dropping that much money on a first birthday – and they’re not ashamed to admit it either.
Sharon Mosely appeared on This Morning today to explain why she wanted to spend the 18k on her grandson, Danny Smith, to celebrate his turning one-year-old.
Included at the event was a four-tier birthday cake, a rose gold highchair, €2,000 worth of balloons, and a party planner.

The mum-of-three said that she has always wanted to splash out due to the tragedy she has experienced in her own life.
Danny’s mum, Georgia, recently suffered a near-fatal car accident and Sharon said that the party was as much for her as it was for her grandson.
She said:
“It was for Georgia as well because she had been through so much.
“For ten years since her accident, it was like she had missed out. At 17 having a car accident and being in hospital for months, then you lose all your friends, she don’t go out 20, 21, you’re missing a lot. Then she got bi-polar. She’s been sectioned many times.”
Despite the reasoning behind her spending, many viewers did not sympathise with Sharon and simply thought that €18,000 was an outrageous amount of money to spend on a birthday.

However, others (one person) saw the sweet side to the story and argued that Sharon should be able to spend her money however she wants.
The gran who spent 16K on her grandsons first birthday was sweet . It’s not up to anyone how people spend money- even if I would spend it differently. Sounds like they wanted a huge celebration as it was long overdue ! Glad she has amazing memories #ThisMorning @thismorning ??
